The next update to Windows 10 will allow you to install a complete Ubuntu distribution (without the Linux kernel itself, there's a shim layer provided by Microsoft ) and run commands from it natively; this will provide all the programming tools you would expect without the complications of dual boot, VMs and so on.
The preview I saw doesn't handle Xorg, but that's already been solved by Cygwin/X. So that might be a great new option. /www.zdnet.comarticle/ubuntu-and-bash-arrive-on-windows-10/ -jim On 28 Jun 2016 5:42 a.m., "David Merrick" <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Phillip Windows hopeless for Programming and can't easily change HDDs > > On Tue, Jun 28, 2016 at 12:30 AM, philip <[email protected]> wrote: > >> On Mon, 2016-06-27 at 22:25 +1200, criggie wrote: >> > David Lowe <[email protected]> wrote: >> > > "criggie" <[email protected]> wrote: >> > > > > >> > > > > > > Looking for an idiot proof way install Linux Mint on >> > > > > > > Windows >> > > > > > > System attached below >> > > > > >> > > > > Your options: >> > > > > 1* two separate computers Honestly - this is the most idiot >> > > > > proof. >> > > > > 2* set your computer to run some kind of VM environment >> > > > > 3* dedicate a server machine to running VMs >> > > > > 4* Amazon >> > >> > > Really?
