My understanding is that "Windows 10" everywhere will upgrade to "SP1"
and make this available sometime in July, but you may have to do a
specific switch-on.

There are a lot of articles online about the preview versions that
have been seen, that are available to the Windows Insiders program
(which I think anyone can join, but I didn't want to do that)

>From what I've seen there are still a few technical questions,
especially around the filesystem that's provided (i.e. umask
differences, : in filenames, and so on), but on the while it'll be a
far better option than cygwin or (for many use-cases) a VM.
