No, that's not what a condom is. GNU screen is a full fledged
terminal emulator; it is an impressive and very useful piece of
software, but not what I have in mind.
The code that I made available is a simple filter. It passes through
all escape sequences to the tty, with the sole exception of ISO 2022
sequences, which it intercepts.
The idea is that we want a simple, easily maintainable piece of code
that we can include in the XFree86 tree and that will provide ISO 2022
support for XTerm without bloat or major surgery to the existing codebase.

I have obviously read the source code to screen before starting this
work. For licensing reasons, however, I cannot use any of their code.
