What Emacs cannot yet do reliably is to automatically determine the
system's default encoding by looking at the output of
nl_langinfo(CODESET). First of all, Emacs has to be extended such that
nl_langinfo(CODESET) can be called from Lisp. Emacs maintainer Gerd
Moellmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is interested in adding that, but lacks fast
network access to a non-FreeBSD machine that implements
nl_langinfo(CODESET) for testing. Any volunteers interested in helping
out here with implementing and testing, please contact Gerd. Thanks.
Has someone written autoconf tests for the presence of
nl_langinfo(CODESET)?
Has someone written a tiny nl_langinfo(CODESET) emulator for use until
FreeBSD get's their locale support sorted out properly?
