I am not quite sure that it is a hardware problem too. I have the same 
problems with "Logitech QC Fusion", the difference is that once the camera 
driver blocks there is no way to use it except a reboot of the system. 
Sometimes even the whole system freezes after a block of the driver.

If there is anyway I can help for QC Fusion (debugging or anything) just tell
