Just to mention that if you have the unsupported device, we (the other 27 linux user who have it) want to extend the list of owners of the HP pavillion and Sony Vaio SZ series laptops interested in having the Ricoh webcam working. We are about to send a request letter to Ricoh. Please send an email to avilella(gmail) and you will be added to the list of signatories.
==== Dears, We the undersigned are writing to you on behalf of the open source Linux[1] community of users of the Ricoh webcams, but the message applies to all of the other open source operating systems. Please resend this letter to other responsible parties who can help us. In open source operating systems, the support for some of your USB webcam devices is lagging because of the lack of available technical documentation. EmperorLinux[2] and the list of signatories below are interested in having a Linux driver for these devices. We understand that the Ricoh Original Driver is only available for the Microsoft Windows platform and that you don't plan on supporting Linux by yourselves. What we require then is free access to any technical documentation or code you could give us in order to develop ourselves a driver for the RY5U870-VW001 [3] and RY5U870-VW002 [4] compact USB cameras. We also require that you give us permission to distribute the source code of the driver freely, under the GPL license (see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html), just like the Linux kernel core code itself. We already contacted kernel driver developers willing to write the drivers <<<to be confirmed>>>. If you feel more comfortable with, we could sign a NDA for these docs, provided that the NDA doesn't forbid the code distribution. As for you, this operation will cost nothing and by having a Linux driver available for your products, you can add the large and growing Linux user base to your potential markets.
