Just to be sure do some... $ cd /lib/modules/2.6.17-10mdv/build $ make menuconfig Please tell us, what is in "General Setup ---> Local version - append to kernel release"? Is there some "custom" around? If not, what is `uname -r` in your case? Hope to have given some useful hints...
