The error code returned by the USB stack indicates a low-level problem. This can be caused by a faulty device (either hardware or software), a bad cable, a noisy electrical environment, ... Try plugging the device in another USB port. Try the camera on another computer if possible to compare the results. Make sure the camera and USB cable aren't too close to an electro-magnetic noise source.
