Hi everybody!
My new Microsoft Lifecam HD 3000 webcam works quite fine in linux, but i
can't get the exposure controls to work.
Is there a way to improve the driver?
I can provide usb snoops if needed.

I'm also wondering if it's possible to disable the LED which is quite
annoying (i'm using the cam for astronomical images, i need to get it
dark and cold).

I don't know if this helps your case, but I remember looking at some pages created by somebody who modded the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9500 for astronomical use - and they opened it up (because the LED is inside the QuickCam Pro 9000) and carefully painted black paint on the led to make it dark.

Also - I used the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9500 for a cctv project - and, after opening the webcams, I've carefully destroyed the LED's with fine nosed plyers. Note that such procedure could theoretically damage the camera. However, of the 6 cameras I've "modified" that way - all of them are alive and well. Just be warned that you would be taking some risks.
