Hello, I'd like to get some clarification and start some discussion on what the path forward is for the linux-zigbee project and team. Currently I see our situation as follows:
1. linux-zigbee.sf.net (first website) * Mailing list (this one) * Userspace tools * recently updated, some patches are still outstanding (Tony's Github tree). * kernel * Not updated in 6 months * documentation * mostly related to the linux-zigbee project kernel. Some out of date. 2. http://code.google.com/p/linux-wsn/ (second website) * information related to the implementation which is in the mainline kernel. * no code currently hosted. * documentation * related to the mainline kernel implementation It seems to me like we have some work to do regarding our front-facing presentation to the world. Currently the two projects and websites are a source of confusion for many newcomers. The first website is likely what people will land on first when searching, but the second more accurately describes the most recent developments of the project (ie: code in the mainline kernel). The other issue of course is the misnomer of Linux-Zigbee, since we are not and likely will not ever be implementing the Zigbee protocol. How do you, the maintainers and contributors, feel we should remedy this situation? My feeling is that the websites should definitely be merged, and the current linux-zigbee kernel be marked as legacy (for reference, and as a temporary repository of features and drivers which have not been merged upstream yet). Further, since the linux-zigbee name has been a misnomer for years, my opinion would be that we start using the linux-wsn (or some other) name for this project. Current website links can of course be maintained from linux-zigbee.sf.net, but anything with the words linux-zigbee on them should clearly reference the new name (whatever that may be), and link to the new site. So the above is just one man's opinion, and I'm happy to be told to go pound sand or "we like it the way it is" or whatever. It just seems that there's a lot of confusion being presented from our community's online presence, and I think there are some good opportunities to make it better. I hope this email can stir up some discussion, and I'm happy to help in whatever way possible, as I know the maintainers are very busy.
