Hi Alan, (Before I start, I'd like to say that I'm grateful to everyone for their efforts. Also, I'm not trying to point a finger at anyone here).
Thanks for your email. You raised a pretty valid point. When I first took interest in IEEE 802.15.4, I went to the linux-zigbee website. I thought this was the place where new code will go... and weeks later I found out that the newest code was ported to net-next. Too many people on the list seems to repeat the same "mistake". It seems a lot of the key actors are currently very busy, so I would suggest a few "quick" changes that, I believe, would make life easier for newcomers: - linux-zigbee.sf.net: placing a banner on each pages advertising that new efforts are on http://code.google.com/p/linux-wsn/ - updating the hardware support page on linux-zigbee. Some devices, like the econotag are marked as "supported" but it takes a few patches to get them to work reliably. Indicate that the driver has not been ported to net-next yet when it applies. - if it does not require too much effort: provide a working tree derived from net-next, where we would apply our patches on it for everyone to test - upgrade the userspace tools to fix the issue with libnl (so far, I've seen two patches for this on the linux-zigbee the mailing list). I guess the tools are currently working for very little people. - this mailing list is fine, we should keep it; even through the legacy "zigbee" portion of the name is confusing I also agree that the name linux-wsn, or any other name that does not contain "zigbee", would be more appropriate and less misleading.
