I "think" it is possible to run the serial protocol over this and I know some guy was working to add the serial protocol inside contiki os, so you could use every contiki node as a linux 6lowpan node. For more information about serial protocol, see [2]. I never heard again about this, but it is interesting. :-)
The Econotag firmware uses this SerialV1 protocol.
