Thanks for all the helpful info.  While I was diging for through google
I found this

These Afinity emulation cards use the PLX9052 chips - and
http://www.jungo.com/products-wdplx.html has driver recourses

Again, since we can not modify the AS/400 server there is no way of
adding one of the ethernet cards.  I found a BOS software solution but
again its windows and its $155 / client + about $400 for the server
software.  Doh!
