I talked with Jeffrey Steadfast from the Evolution team on IRC and he
said that NSS is simply a nicer API as well as providing the hooks to do
S/MIME functions. So it wasn't that amending the license would have been
the 'wrong way" to do it.

I'd say tweak the license then.
