I do a decent amount of Fortran programming, but I use Fortran 90/95,
which is more or less a different language from FORTRAN 77.

If the existing code is ANSI-compliant, then yes, compiling it with
g77 should work, at least in theory. You might have more luck if
the manufacturer of the original compiler you used (for DOS) has
a Linux version, and you can afford to get that.

I would also suggest checking out Lahey Systems (http://www.lahey.com).
They market compilers for Windows and Linux, and also provide porting
services, although I don't know how much they cost.
