Ok, I've got couple of other stuff from SuSE and Mandrake-Linux. Here's the
inventory and I'm really happy!!! hehe

Mandrake-Linux
Download Edition GPL CDs - 50 (I don't think we even have 50 ppl as of yet)
Stickers - 50
Posters - 2 (Which I'll definitely save for a future event)

SuSE
Ver 7.1 LiveEval CDs - 4
Ver 7.2 LiveEval CDs - 5
Some thing which you cut and paste and you place on your desk (dunno what
you call it) - Don't know the exact number but around 50 or more I'd guess.
Posters for your car - Didn't bother to count but more than enough for
everyone

So, as of now, I'll say our library and resources are plentiful and I'm sure
whenever we have some event such as an installfest we can ask them for more.
Couple of things mentioned above are in excess but I'm sure we can use the
surplus at a later date.

That was the fun part now down to business. Wayne, who came at the last
meeting and I discussed a couple of things that we'd like to incorporate or
discuss into our meetings. Heres a list :-

1) Basic Linux Stuff For Newbies - We thought we could base this on a book
which works towards some kind of certification like LPI or Sair. I could ask
Sair to send us complimentary books and we can base this part on those
books.

2) The registration of LUG with the Linux Journal site. Like I wrote
previously, the cost is $30 or $32 I can't remember. But the benefits of
registering outweigh the cost and I'm sure with everyone chipping in we'll
be able to collect it.

3) Boot Process - Anyone care to take this as a pet project? We can have a
number of presentations on this.

4) Building your custom kernel - Like the previous one, someone want to take
this?

5) Start using StarOffice for making presentations. Also someone could
demonstrate StarOffice.

6) VMWare Demo

7) Minutes would be good but not necessary. Someone can always write a brief
summary of what happened at the meeting and I can put it up on the website.
Preferably those doing presentations can have have a soft copy of it, which
I can put on the website.

8) Dynamic content on LUG's website - The more variety and diverse content
we have on our website, the more people will come to our website and
meetings.

9) Put on website offering to install Linux on people's systems if they
bring it in. Initially we can do this during our LUG meeting, but then soon
we can set out a separate day in the month for this. We have to see where we
can get an internet connection from.

10) Do a presentation at Barnes and Nobles, Borders etc. any other book
stores nearby on Linux and make an arrangement with them to give our card
with every Linux book sold by their store offering to give free Technical
Support.

11) Assign various roles to people in the LUG e.g. PR, Events Manager etc.
etc. Any others people like to offer or become...hehe But no seriously, we
do need to assign some roles to show that we are an organization committed
to advocacy of Linux.

12) The LUGs present objectives :-
a) Build up a reputation for the LUG. Once we've established ourselves as a
group capable in Linux we can take on projects. Which leads to our next
point.
b) Approach Schools and offer to setup a Linux network for them. Show them
the benefits of having Linux in their school. Promise them support from the
LUG. Also, have a series of seminars for the staff members to show how Linux
is easy to use.
c) Once we've managed to achieve the above with one school, we can then put
ourselves open to companies.
d) Formalize and register the LUG as an organization.

As of such, this is all we've discussed. Wayne, if you have anything else to
add, please do. Also, others, please feel free to give your ideas on
presentations we could have, what the LUG can try to achieve.

We have a tall list of things to do but slowly and surely we'll achieve it
one by one. I'm sure we have more ideas so I'm waiting and I'll compile it
for the next meeting. If I think of anything else, I'll send them to the
list.

Jeff
