That's ranka.2y.net

Heyla, folks. I'm Malcolm (You know, the one who talks to his
computer, cause she pisses him off) It was nice to meet you all, and I
hope to see you all again some time.
A little bit of background on myself, for those of you wanting
to know. I'm a 21 year old High School grad (That's right, not college
to my name) I've been working with computers ever since '83 at the ripe
old age of 3. Learned at an early age that the way to truly interact
with a computer was with a keyboard, and arcane commands. Paddles and
Joysticks (And later by extension, mice.) were for games. So that's
what I generally think of Windows. It's a game, and about as stable as
one, too. ;)
I've been working with Linux since May of 2000, when a friend
of mine brought over a copy of Slackware 7.0 and slapped it on Trianna.
I've been loving it ever since. About two months ago, I became an Op
on DALnet's #LinuxHelp channel, and am often there cracking jokes, and
answering questions.
Major Linux programs I have some amount of experience with
include Apache, Linux itself, network config tools (Though I still
struggle with the syntax for ifconfig from time to time) DHCPd, qmail
(Surprisingly, I've not played with sendmail beyond some small amount
of work. Didn't like it, found qmail, was much happier with it) Lets
see... some experience with WINE. Samba, X Window System, SSH,
iptables/ipchains. among others.
Distributions I've played with include Slackware 7.0-8.0,
RedHat 6.2, 7.0 SuSE 6.3 and TurboLinux 6.1. While I'm on the subject,
I'm a firm believer in the idea that there should NOT be any 'Distro
Wars', or whatever the popular term for the idea is at the time. It is
all Linux. ANY distro can be made to do everything, it just all
depends on how much time you want to spend getting it to work in
whatever role you wish. People should use whatever distro is
comfortable with them, and should not let anyone else's opinion sway
them.
I personally settled on Slackware 'cause I found it to be a
nice well-rounded distribution, that let me play with the innards of
the system rather easily. That's what I enjoy. Anyway, I'll stop
ranting about myself. And I pray that this was a good enough of an
intro post. :)
