I can think of *very* few people who have the resources to pay for
this, as well as an interest in seeing Linux running on the Xbox.  My
personal favorite for this is none other than the illustrious Bill
Gates himself, who, I'm sure, would be interested in seeing how fast
people can get Linux to run on new hardware.  My only guess as to why,
though, is to block the porting of Linux to future MS systems (game
console?  set-top box?).  The deadline, then, probably would have more
to do with internal MS deadlines - and the money is an incentive (which
wouldn't even be missed by Gates (or Microsoft, if that's the source))
to do the porting as fast as possible.

If this is indeed the case, I can see why the donor is anonymous.  Heh.

Either that, Paul Allen has a sick sense of humor...
