I used calcurse for a long time, not to share meetings with others -
especially not google, but to track my own personal appointments and
events.
I tried remind because I prefer the single month overview with events. I
like the clear visual cue of this week, next week, etc. Then I found the
gui interface - TkRemind - I don't know who's heart I am breaking most
by saying that! But I like clicking things that are, to me, inherently
visual.
I have a script that syncs the .reminders file to home based source
control, so my changes are available on all my machines, as I have not
attempted installing a radicale caldav server, because the simple
solution works fine for me.

You're breaking my heart!! I've spent 30+ years working on Remind and
even gave a talk about it at OCLUG years ago.
