+1 from me on this comment as well!

I'm not opposed to standards work, especially if we are looking at
standards that could be implemented in FOSS software. I don't know
anything about health care but I do have some standards experience. I
contribute to the Vulkan standard with Khronos for my work.

On a related note a like the idea of working on stuff that could push
FOSS more into the government. Given the current state of the world it
would be nice if we weren't as dependent on US tech companies and
infrastructure. Besides that it would be nice that instead of paying
for licensing fees to foreign companies the government could pay
domestic companies to work on open solutions that could be used here
and in other countries. Would help build tech industry and expertise in
Canada and make sure more of our dollars aren't leaving the country.

I'm sure they exist. In my experience working on standards it doesn't
feel like anything gets done until there is a face-to-face meeting.
Then people are actually dedicating the time to hash things out.

I started a sign-up sheet with my ideas so far. If you're interested
you could add you name & ideas to it. I'm sending it out to all the
people who've expressed interest in the idea so far. Here's a link if
you (or anyone else is interested):
