By golly, that does work out.  Now I have to assume that VMware must look 
at the 'free' amount and not take buffers/cache into account. No matter how 
much ram is available, it limits the amount allocated to a virtual machine to 12-18 
meg, the amount that shows as 'free'.  Thanks again for the help, guys, now I'll 
go pester the VM group a while.   :)
