Hi all, I've been trying to get SimplyMepis to control the fan on this computer, so that it won't overheat.
If the computer is cold when booted, the fan doesn't work at all. If the computer is warm, the fan turns on, and stays on. I believe this means that the BIOS have checked the temperature, and switched it on. It is preferable, I presume, to get acpi to control the temperature and fan etc. I've installed acpid (in the blind hope that this might help somehow). I've been led to believe that I should activate thermal and fan support in the kernel and recompile. Not totally sure what this would mean in practice. I've copied in a pile of possibly relevant readouts, in the hope that someone might have some bright idea. lsmod reads: Module Size Used by Not tainted parport_pc 24936 1 (autoclean) lp 6788 0 (autoclean) parport 21856 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp] snd-atiixp 6732 1 (autoclean) snd-ac97-codec 41148 0 (autoclean) [snd-atiixp] snd-pcm-oss 36196 0 (autoclean) (unused) snd-mixer-oss 11640 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss] snd-pcm 52864 0 (autoclean) [snd-atiixp snd-pcm-oss] snd-timer 12516 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm] snd-page-alloc 5552 0 (autoclean) [snd-atiixp snd-pcm] snd 28996 1 (autoclean) [snd-atiixp snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm snd-timer] soundcore 3300 3 (autoclean) [snd] sg 24028 0 (autoclean) ipt_limit 952 2 (autoclean) ipt_state 600 66 (autoclean) ipt_LOG 3352 2 (autoclean) ipt_REJECT 3256 2 (autoclean) ip_conntrack_ftp 3728 0 (unused) ip_conntrack_irc 3024 0 (unused) ip_conntrack 18280 2 [ipt_state ip_conntrack_ftp ip_conntrack_irc] iptable_filter 1732 1 (autoclean) ip_tables 11128 5 [ipt_limit ipt_state ipt_LOG ipt_REJECT iptable_filter] af_packet 11816 0 (autoclean) ds 6408 1 yenta_socket 9632 1 pcmcia_core 36992 0 [ds yenta_socket] serial 42436 0 (autoclean) nls_iso8859-1 2844 0 (autoclean) ntfs 50848 0 (autoclean) 8139too 13128 0 mii 2304 0 [8139too] crc32 2816 0 [8139too] thermal 6660 0 (unused) processor 8856 0 [thermal] fan 1568 0 (unused) button 2508 0 (unused) battery 5888 0 (unused) ac 1792 0 (unused) printer 7296 0 hid 20612 0 (unused) usb-ohci 17864 0 (unused) /proc/acpi reads: file:/proc/acpi/ac_adapter file:/proc/acpi/battery file:/proc/acpi/button file:/proc/acpi/embedded_controller file:/proc/acpi/fan file:/proc/acpi/power_resource file:/proc/acpi/processor file:/proc/acpi/thermal_zone file:/proc/acpi/alarm file:/proc/acpi/dsdt file:/proc/acpi/event file:/proc/acpi/fadt file:/proc/acpi/info file:/proc/acpi/sleep All of which are empty. /var/log/acpid reads: [Sun Sep 26 14:31:56 2004] starting up [Sun Sep 26 14:31:56 2004] 1 rule loaded /usr/src/linux-2.4.26 reads: file:/usr/src/linux-2.4.26/bootsplash-3.0.7-2.4.26.diff file:/usr/src/linux-2.4.26/Kernel-Win4Lin3-2.4.26.patch file:/usr/src/linux-2.4.26/linux-2.4.25-mppe-20040216.patch file:/usr/src/linux-2.4.26/mki-adapter.patch I hope some of this is useful. What next? The computer, by the way, is a Toshiba A60-302. Thanks in advance. Declan ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> $9.95 domain names from Yahoo!.
