A)  /etc/fstab is not read when you perform a mount like this.
B)  On a newbies list, we never assume that something is "OK" when said
so by somebody asking a question.

You have to recompile your kernel to include NTFS support.  Dig through
the archives over the past couple weeks.  I responded to somebody with a
brief overview of kernel recompilation.  Take a look at that and let us
know if you have any problems.
