Did you try what it said, or did you just ignore the error during
configuration? I'm guessing you ignored it.
The problem is that the compiler can't find the gaim libraries. You
should follow the text of the error. Use the commands find or locate to
find the directory that contains gaim.pc or whatever, then add that
directory to your PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:/path/to/the/file/you/found
After that, rerun config. If config fails, as it did above, it won't
produce a Makefile, so when you ran make, it had no idea what it was
supposed to make, since the Makefile is the instructions that make follows.
