Hello everyone! I have been looking for a group like this. I have downloaded puppy linux and made a bootable cd. I have read quite a bit on forums and bought an older version of "Linux for Dummies".
I have run windows for years and familiar enough with dos to write and edit bat files. I am currently running XP Home. I mainly use MS Excel, Word, Notepad, QuickBooks, and Firefox as my browser. My current PC is a single hard drive with only one partition. I can boot to puppy linux from my CD. I can get to the desktop but can't seem to get started to do any real work. I get frustrated when following the forum or tutorials at the puppy linux site. There is so much that I don't understand that I run into roadblocks and run out of time or quit. I don't know if puppy linux is the best way for me to start or not. I don't know if I should try to partition my hard drive or not. I would like to have an alternative to windows at least. I might change an old computer to just linux if I could wrap my mind around what and how to do it. It seems like Microsoft wants to take over my PC, my pocketbook and my life to a certain extent. If Linux is better and I can learn to get some work done with it then all the better. Could someone kinda steer me in the right direction from what I have talked about in this post?
