mainstream exposure. The MS split didn't help things, particularly since
they took the best version of it and left IBM out in the cold, so to
speak. Of course IBM deserves some blame as well, for stubbornly
refusing to drop support for the 16 bit 80286 CPU's, when the industry
was clearly moving away from them very quickly.

IBM often seems to cut off their nose to spite their face.
