Mark,
I can't speak to every distro, but I do know that
there is an embedded version of Damn Small Linux (DSL)
that installs to the hard drive and provides a linux
gui environment w/ 2.4.2x kernel. If that is
appealing, I would suggest checking out:
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org

It may not be overly "sexy" compared to a full install
or LiveCD, but it should be functional.

HTH,

in Windows XP. I
ask because at work I can't fully install Linux, but I
can install it
in windows and use it. I could use a flash drive or
USB drive but I
have to have access to windows at all times. I have
tried VmWare Player
and downloading a linux "appliance" but for some
reason it won't let me
download the appliances. It seems like there should be
something that
will run in windows like a virtual linux or something..."
