Hi,
I have been toying with the idea of using linux as an in-store kiosk
operating system. However, I have run into a few challenges that the
group may be able to help with. I'm thinking that the system would
use internet type technology for the presentation PHP, MySQL, and
HTML. The idea is to have a database drive presentation on linux. A
few questions come up:
1) Should I be looking at something else to build a database drive
presentation on linux instead of internet technologies?
2) Does anyone know of a web browser that has no button bar or
address line. Basically I want a browser that cannot be broken by the
end user. I would like it to run full screen without application
controls. I know I can use Js to capture key-board functions to
prevent this in a regular browser but, how do you prevent the window
from being dragged?
3) If I create a master installation on a live CPU with a Hard drive,
How can I go about creating a flash drive or thumb drive that will be
boot. I'm hoping to just re-master the entire boot drive for updates
to the system rather then have a tech person run scripts. This way
they should be able to shut down swap and boot.
I have googled on these topics and found a few things. I was just
wondering if anyone here had a specific technique they use or a
browser they like for similar purposes.
Sincerely,
Mike
