I downloaded CD burner XP pro and used it to try and transfer the ISO image to
a cd and got nothing but a file burned on to the cd.

Any help here would be a plus as I have never use this software or dealt with
ISO images before.

With CdburnerXP Pro it goes this way:
Start the program, as it starts a new compilation window pops up, with 3
choices, click on the top one that refers to data operations the others are for
audio.
When the main panel loads up, go to top menu bar and click on file, then select
"write disc from iso file".
Then the "write iso image" box will appear, use the browse button to get to the
iso file and select it.
To play it safe reduce the write speed to 4X, there is a lot of compressed data
in the iso that has extracted, uncompressed and written.
Then click on "write disc" and in about 20 mins it should be done.
While you are waiting go to www.pclinuxos.com and read the wiki.
When it is done reboot with the cd in the drive and you should be there.
