First, one should always have at least two copies of their website... one version for doing the actual page development and modification/scripting, etc., on, and one 'live' copy, that is on the server, to be viewed by the world (or the Intranet, if it is a private website). All modifications are then done on the 'development copy' after testing has been done, and everything is working right, and ready for the 'world' to see. Then and only then, are the paged uploaded to the server's htdocs directory. Usually, default installations of Apache are initially 'owned' by a machine identity... like 'daemon' or 'www' or something, so you have to check to see who owns the htdocs directory and files. If the files are owned by user 'www' who belongs to group 'www', then you ca su to root, and add yourself to the 'www' group, using the 'chown' command. Once you are a member of the group that owns the files you are trying to modify or replace/overwrite, and the directory you are trying to place files into, you should have sufficient rights to do what you want. -- -wittig http://www.robertwittig.com/ . http://robertwittig.net/ . http://robertwittig.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] & you will be removed.
