I have used Simply MEPIS for several years now and have found it the easiest and best all around distro. Unfortunately their repository list is not as extensive as Ubuntu's and it is not kept as up-to-date. You can run into problems if you add certain Ubuntu repositories beyond the default ones. It will start resembling Ubuntu and it may even crash in the end. I would stick to the default repositories unless you know what you are doing.
