Except for a few of the 'Damn Small Linux' distros, designed to be
featherweight, most modern Linux distros want PIII or better.

I have run machines of this vintage with OpenBSD on them, w/o any GUI
installed, or the minimal fvwm GUI installed, and it ran Ok for things
like a gateway with the PF packet filter running.

I did install Firefox on one of these old PII boxes with OpenBSD, and
it was quasi-Ok for browsing the web, but it did take a while to load
eBay pages. It was Ok with interfacing on openbsd.org pages, though,
which was all I really wanted graphical interface for.
