Also, when you say "it won't boot", are you saying "I can't get my
graphical desktop to start", or do you mean "it freezes somewhere
during the boot process" (when all those nifty text messages go
scrolling by)? These are two dramatically different problems, you
understand why I'm asking. How far do you get, starting your machine?
Do you get a graphical login screen? Text login only? In
addition, the details others have asked for would help. Also, if you
know, how much hard-drive storage space do you have?
Another simple way trick to try is boot the machine up using a LiveCD,
which doesn't involve the hard drive at all, and then reaching in to
your hard drive from that standpoint to do the necessary fixes
(deleting trash, resizing disk partitions so it doesn't happen again,
etc.)
