Hi gang,
What a great forum--no spam I see! Okay, I am totally new to Linux.
However, my brother in 2005 purchased two "DVR" digital video
recording systems for a restaurant. The OS is Linux. We have two
complete computer setups--one crashed however.
The problem is, the company doesn't respond to phone or email. The
company is called DLA and I at the moment can't even find their
website.
Apparently, when purchased, the computers had the software already
installed (and already registered).
Thus, when we fixed the bad machine (got the hard drive fixed), the
software key needs to be re-entered to use the machine!! It is very
frustrating because we bought these legally but don't have the
software key to use it and I can't get a hold of the company!
As far as I can tell, the Linux OS is running great on the machine
that doesn't work--its the surviellance software that we can't access.
So my first question as a Linux newbie is...how do you stop the cold
boot process? The Linux boot screen comes up and then you see a
bunch of scripts loading...how do you "stop" the batch file that is
loading and just go to a Linux prompt? Can you even do that?
Remember, I've come from a MS-DOS world...and I figured if I can stop
a batch file on DOS, why not Linux? I will be getting a Linux for
Dummies book and maybe, just maybe, if I can get into the Linux
prompt, I can sniff around, maybe even find some company info on the
hard drive.
Any help appreciated!
I look forward to being apart of this forum!
Regards,
Tom M.
