I am absolutely clueless here and I need help.
Earlier today,my daughter's cat decided my laptop keyboard was a warm and
toasty place to lie. When I came into the room the screen was black and
there was a whole screen of randomly pressed text.(It looked like the
command terminal had been maximized and typed in)
I removed kitty and backspaced all the text. At the beginning it asked for
my log in and password. I typed them in, thinking I could shut down the
computer and then restart it. After I logged in, I tried to shut down the
system but nothing happened (it's quit possible I used the wrong command. I
was trying 'shut down' and 'quit" )
So.. I shut the system down by pushing the button.
When I restarted my system, everything seemed fine. My Log in screen came
up, I logged in, and everything that SHOULD have opened, DID open.
I tried to send an IM (Pidgin), but my keyboard was unresponsive.. the text
I typed didn't show on the screen. I used the mouse to select a smilely and
that selected fine. But, when I hit enter to send it.. nothing happened.
I opened an email and hit reply, same thing.
Then I noticed a small rectangle at the bottom Right of my screen. The text
I typed was showing in this rectangle, even though I was working in my email
program. When I hit Enter, the text disappeared.
Same thing with Pidgin, and Open Office.
And everything else I tried.
... Please help! I'm on a dead line for a book and I simply don't have time
for this.. ..... (yes, the cat is fine, and I've learned to always remember
to lock my screen before I walk away from the computer.)
Yvette
