I think it's fairly obvious.  The cat, having decided you'd suffered
enough, went back and fixed the problem he (or she) had caused.

Again, it's difficult to guess at a distance.

Even on servers, such peculiar things happen.  I remember explaining to
my boss how something was simply not working and then demonstrated--of
course, it worked.  As he's been around computers forever, he just
laughed, as such things certainly do happen.
