I have looked at several distros in the past year (my tenure with
Linux) and use Mepis 7.0 as my main distro. I am presently looking at
the betas of Mepis 8.0. I also have Mint 5.0 KDE installed and
working, as well as Kubuntu 8.04 & 8.10. One of the things that I use
to consider a distro is whether or not it will work on my hardware
without a lot of deep digging for solutions. Mostly I can find the
answers in the distro forums. Many of them didn't work and at some
point in trying to get them to work I just abandoned them altogether.
This is partly because I have 4 different distros that I am able to
get working on my system. I am using a desktop 3.0 ghz core 2 duo
intel processor with a wired dsl internet connection. I am a Windows
convert and like KDE better than Gnome. But there are Windows converts
that like Gnome better. I would say just try some of those that will
be mentioned in this group or other groups and see if they will work.
By work, I mean can you surf the internet, watch videos, listen to
music, etc. Whatever it is that you wnat to do with your computer.
Some distros are better at certain things than others. By this I mean
they will do what you want with less trouble than some others.
