Yes, that's what I don't like about it. Otherwise, it's quite good for
some of the netbooks, like the Aspire One.

I've not heard of that one. You don't PCLinuxOS, do you? (Which is
Mandriva based, not Ubuntu).
(Nope, you don't, I quickly googled and found it.)
I think (but am not promising) that Mint has the same idea, Ubuntu, more
or less, with all the proprietary codecs installed.
