Funny you asked that, I was idly curious about that the other day.

Yes, there are ways to do it, not all that trivial.  Search for unix
equivalent of ad or something like that--you'll get a lot of useless
hits, but there was one thread on a forum that had a link to a very
useful site--I'll check when I get home tonight if I can find it in my
history.
