Hi,
I am new to this list and so please excuse me if this has been addressed
before. I also would be interested in a 440BX project. I recently became
interested in linuxbios as a result of my recent introduction to linux and
the slow/nonexistant BIOS revision cycle from the maker of an 'archived' BX
board that I have. Consequently, I am weening myself off windows and
dependence on manufacturers support practices. In the process I find that I
will become immersed in the intricacies of the BIOS and its support to the
operating system. I am not a programmer by training but I am hoping to
build/gain skills by potentially participating in a project such as this.
Within the coming months, I would like to offer what limited skills I have
in helping to develope a BX linuxbios. At the least I would need direction.
At the most - alot more. Thanks to a! ll! at linuxbios for the great info.
Mostly this email is to say that there are more interested parties in a BX
project and to say thanks.

Subject: ECC RAM ?

Hi,

I haven't seen the topic of ECC RAM mentioned yet.
Is there any chance that ECC will be supported for any
motherboards any time soon? The long-in-the-tooth 440BX
perhaps? What is needed to do this, aside from an ECC-capable
motherboard? SPD programming?

I'm in the process of building a diskless router out of a Matsonic
DoC combo (as soon as I get a working replacement motherboard),
and the Matsonic is fine for that purpose. (Kudos to SiS!)

But I wouldn't want to deploy a server without ECC RAM. It's bad
enough even trying to find an inexpensive motherboard that
supports ECC these days; the whole Intel chipset debacle has
kept the 440BX popular.

Regards,

Bill Rugolsky

I think Tyson Sawyer had some BX boards running pretty solidly a few months back. Try looking at the Archives
