At this point the plan is to have to 2 kinds of programs a mkelfImage, 
type program that converts programs so they are elf Executables
bootable with linuxBIOS. 

And a set of compressor programs that compress arbitrary linuxBIOS
bootable elf executables.  

I currently have a prototype based on unzip, and it looks moderately
simple to port upx to compress static elf executables.  Porting upx
looks like about a weeks worth of effort, maybe a little more.  Not
real hard but a little time consuming.

I definentily need to complete some of this for the alpha port.

How large is the plan9 kernel?  I just curious to see how it compares
in size with linux.  

Oh, and with recent compressors you can pretty assume a 3:1
compression rastio for rough calculations on how small the compressed
image will be, after being stripped.
