make modules is failing with version #s set. So I turned them off and am
trying again. This was the first time I've seen this so I'm not sure
what's up.

In general, for mtd, we will probably need a function that figures out
what southbridge it is and then "does the right thing" for that
southbridge. Although that's not enough, it is mainboard specific. So the
user has to tell mtd what mainboard. 

I wrote some stuff like this for plan 9 so I can see what you think of it.
