I am finally making headway on the i860 chipset... I can enable the serial port in 16 bit mode and output characters.
I can do everything up to swithcing to 32bit mode. However when I attempt to switch to 32bit mode, something goes awry. I'll investigate more tommorrow. But if anyone has a clue I'd love to hear it. My buest guess so far is that we aren't initializing all of the processor registers the intel docs say we should initialize before switching to protected mode. But I don't see what the mtrrs or the control registers cr1-cr4 have to do with anything. Eric
