I ended up only sending this to Eric... I seem to do that a lot.  My
reply and reply to all menu selections are just too close together I
guess.  Anyway heres the list's copy.

Hmmmm... Perhaps not so dumb since I don't really know how to answer.
 Lets say its the i2c-code-from-CVS-for-the-440bx-chipset.

 freebios/src/northbridge/intel/440bx/raminit.inc is where it lives. 
Of course on the 440bx the actual i2c bridge is in the southbridge.  

I'm assuming that the PCI reads are working correctly because if the
devfunction isn't set properly then the code hangs wating for the
ready bit to go active.

Perhaps I need to read a few other registers and see if I get back
the right data.  The status read could be a fluke.
