Pitty that linuxconf does not allow single user mode without entering a
password. Which can not be entered because /etc/passwd is invalid.
With some luck, however we could get in by ftp and upload a correct
/etc/passwd.
It seems that somehow, the shadow password functionality was not complete
(i.e. interactive login failed, but ftp was still possible). I will try to
investigate this and come back with what I found.
