Briefly, bootp is tied to DHCP except that is not only gives a basic IP
config it can download an OS (like the Cisco IOS). Handy if you have lots
of routers and want to centraly manage them. You can use it to boot a
diskless station as well.
You might be looking for TFTP, bootp, or tacacs. I don't know.
