Mail from ILUG-BOM list (Non-Digest Mode)
Hi,
Yesterday my system went down due to a power cut, now the problem is that
it won't boot beyond a certain point. Here are the final messages before
the boot-up dies on me:
//Begin quote
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly
change_root: old root has d_count=1
Trying to mount old root ... okay
Freeing unused kernel memory: 64kb freed
init: error in loading shared libraries: lib.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: no such or directory
//End quote
The system freezes beyond this point and there's nothing I can do! I tried
reinstalling the system without reformat, but the problem persists. I am
(supposed to be) running RHL 6.2 upgraded from the PCQ-CD. I tried a rescue
boot from the cd - it has all the utils like rpm and fsck but I don't know
how to mount my HDD on it. It uses a 1MB ramdisk with the device /tmp/cdrom
mounted as /mnt/source
What do I do? Is there any other way to rescue the system? No runlevel
including "single" can complete beyond the above point
Help,
Sameer.
