Hi guys,
I was finally able to figure out how to use the rescue mode. After mounting
the hdd on a dummy node, I used "chroot" along with other commands to try
and fix the file system. Basically did an "rpm -e --nodeps" and "rpm -ivh"
on glibc.
Although I was able to boot into Linux once, I realised that a lot of
packages had missing files, including e2fsprogs, glibc, initscripts,
ldconfig ... when I tried running fsck, it reported a host of problems that
it tried to fix, but the filesystem is messed up really badly. So I just
managed to recover all the data, and now mostly its time for a reformat.
Now, once again, I am unable to boot into Linux. fsck itself hangs up and
starts generating "SeekComplete Error" or something like that and other I/O
errors.
