Dear Colleague,

This is just to remind you of the following ACM event.

ACM Seminar
Friday, June 23, 2000 - 6:30 p.m.

Title: Technical Communication

Speaker: M. Sasikumar (Senior Research Scientist, KBCS, NCST)

Venue: Lecture Theatre, NCST, Juhu

Abstract:
Technical Communication (TC) is essentially communication of technical
information to an audience. The communication can be in oral or written
form. We specifically look at written TC as that is perhaps the
most important form of communication in professional life, and often
the most neglected. For most of us, putting down one's thoughts on paper
is a difficult task - even when there is no difficulty with the language
being used. In other words, writing requires skills and knowledge beyond
a command of the language used. Today, a wide range of tools and
on-line resources are available to help ease the task of communication.
But it is often overlooked that using a fancy powerful
tool is neither essential nor sufficient for getting good outputs. This
talk will address the difference of TC from other types of communication,
the issues one needs to be aware of, common problems, and some guidelines
or thumb-rules to improve TC.
