I was just trying to copy a VCD to an SMB mount and found that XMMS
started to get sluggish as my CPU usage went up to over 50%. After some
tweaking with hdparm, these settings managed to cut down CPU usage to
about 25%. XMMS is playing fine again:
/sbin/hdparm -u1 -X34 -d1 /dev/cdrom
